Mount Gambier is the type of place where younger adventurers, craggy outdoorsmen, household street trippers and intrepid explorers all have an equally great old time. Residents of the Mount Gambier area have the place wired, which is why our three-day itinerary allows guests to experience the area as locals do.
The Blue Lake in Mt Gambier is the largest crater lake in SouthAustralia, stretching over 1km extensive and is estimated to be as a lot as seventy four metresdeep. There is a three.4km strolling trail stretching around the lake that’s suitablefor any sort of health, and positively worth it for the sensational views. This is yet another conservation park tucked in between all of the pine plantations about 25 km to the southeast of Mount Gambier. We visited here to do the Wombat Walk, a 5km walking path through the scrub. The Leg of Mutton Lake is now dry after the water table in the area has dried up, but it’s a pretty walk through what looks like a wooded area with a clearing (the old lake bed) proper within the middle. Both are made using water from the aquifer that flows into the sinkhole itself, they usually use local botanicals to create distinctive, Limestone Coast flavours. I noticed my first Blue Lake on a college tour to the Jenolan Caves, simply west of the Blue Mountains close to Sydney.
